Itinerary

Day 1Visit Ganvie Village.

The day begins with a drive to the stilt village of Ganvie, famously known as the “Venice of Africa.” Here, you will have the opportunity to visit the floating market and witness the unique lifestyle of the village’s inhabitants. The next stop is Ouidah, the site of Africa’s largest slave market. The city is dominated by the Houeda community, who worship pythons and consider them sacred. In fact, it is forbidden to kill a python in Ouidah, and if one is found dead, it must be brought to the temple for burial. You will have the chance to visit the temple, where you may even see live pythons, which are harmless and can be photographed. After exploring the temple, you will visit the sacred forest, a spiritual place for the Houeda people, as well as the slavery market and the Door of No Return. To round out the day, there will be a Zangbeto dance performance in Lokossa in the late afternoon.

Day 2A Visit to Abomey

The morning will kick off with a drive to Abomey, with a pit stop at the Azove market. In Abomey, you will have the chance to explore the city and visit the historic royal palace, which now serves as the Abomey Museum. You will also get to experience the oldest fetish market in Africa. Later in the afternoon, you will be treated to an Egungun dance performance in Cove.

Day 3Head to Dankoli voodoo temple.

The morning will start with a mesmerizing Guelede dance performance before heading to the northern region of Benin. Along the way, you will encounter the nomadic Fulani people and visit the Dankoli voodoo temple. The Fulani, who come from neighboring countries such as Niger, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Chad, and Guinea with their cattle, have a lifestyle that involves living in the bush with their animals.

Day 4Visit the people in Taneka.

The morning will be spent visiting the Wom tribe in Taneka. This tribe has strict requirements for circumcision, with men required to be 25 to 30 years old and to undergo multiple ceremonies before the procedure. Taneka is a traditional village with a voodoo priest who provides protection for the community. The Wom people are known for their distinctive scarification, which serves as a symbol of their identity. After the visit, you will witness the circumcision dance. Afterwards, you will travel to Birni to meet the king of the Bariba people.

Day 5Head to Boukombe

The morning departure will take you to the regional museum of Natitingou and to several Fulani villages before arriving at Boukombe to visit the Tata Somba of the Betammaribe people. This community has specific rituals and ceremonies that young girls must undergo before reaching adulthood. You will be able to witness the Dikountri dance, which is the women’s initiation dance in the Otammaribe tribe. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to visit the women as they create pottery.

Day 6.Drive to Koutammakou and Tamberma

The morning journey will take you to the Koutammakou and Tamberma villages where you will have the chance to learn about the local people’s culture, traditions, and unique architecture. In the afternoon, you will arrive at Tchare village, known for its blacksmithing. You will be able to witness this traditional trade in action and see how the local beer is brewed. To conclude the day, you will experience the dance of men’s initiation performed by the Kabye people.

Day 7. Drive to Kpalime

The morning excursion will take you to Kpalime, the top tourist destination in Togo. Although the drive may be lengthy, you will have the opportunity to rejuvenate at the local waterfall and take a refreshing swim, if desired. In the evening, you will visit the Bats Valley, adding to your memorable experience in Kpalime.

Day 8Visit the biggest markert in Togo capital.

Your morning itinerary will consist of a city tour in Kpalime followed by a scenic hike to the summit of Mont Agou, the tallest mountain in Togo. After this exhilarating experience, you will continue to Lome, the capital of Togo. There, you will have the opportunity to visit the largest market in the city and the famous fetish market.

Day 9.Head to Togoville

Your journey begins in the morning as you set off to Togoville, a historic city known for its rich spiritual heritage in Togo. The only way to reach Togoville is by boat, but before boarding, you will stop at the slaves house in Agbodrafo. In Togoville, you will delve into the city’s rich cultural and spiritual traditions by visiting the women’s voodoo convent and temple, the twins temple, and other significant landmarks within the city.

Day 10.Visit some voodoo temple and the museum

In the morning, after a hearty breakfast, we will set off for Aneho, which used to be the capital city of Togo. During our visit, we will explore some of the fascinating voodoo temples and delve into the history at the local museum. As the day comes to a close, we will make our way to the Ghana border and journey towards Accra.

Day 11.Visit Odumasi krobo in Ghana.

In the morning, we will visit Shai Hill to explore the ancient home of the Shai people and take in some wildlife viewing. Afterwards, we will head to Odumasi Krobo to witness the creation of beads, which play a significant role in the fashion and dressing of the Ghanaian people. The Krobo people of Ghana have a unique talent for bead making.

Day 12A visit to Kumasi cultural center

Today we will explore the rich cultural heritage of Kumasi by visiting the Kumasi cultural center, which will give us insight into the history of the Ashanti people. Afterwards, we will visit Bonwire, the center of Kente weaving, where the traditional attire worn by the kings and queens of the old Ghana empire is crafted. Additionally, we will stop at Ntonsu Adinkra printing village, where we will learn about the art of creating adinkra fabric, another important textile that originated in Ghana.

Day 13.Drive to the Cape coast slave castle and Elmina slave castle

Today, we will travel from Kumasi to Cape Coast where we will visit two historic slave castles: the Cape Coast Slave Castle and the Elmina Slave Castle. These castles are among the oldest standing structures in West Africa and were heavily involved in the slave trade hundreds of years ago.

Day 14.Visit the Kakum National Park

This morning, we will travel to the Kakum National Park where we will take a scenic walk on the canopy walkway. Afterward, we will make our way down to Accra, stopping to admire the Posuban shrines along the way, which are found within various communities. Finally, we will arrive at Accra.
