Itinerary

Itinerary

We will pick you from the port or accommodation at 8:30am drive to Kolmanskop, Namibia’s most famous ghost town, and is situated a few kilometers inland from the port Luderitz. In 1908, the railway worker Zacharias Lewala found a sparkling stone amongst the sand he was shoveling away from the railway line, near Kolmanskop. His supervisor August Stauch was convinced it was a diamond and when this was confirmed, the news spread like wildfire, sparking a huge, frantic diamond rush and causing fortune hunters to converge in droves on.
Procced the jetty harbor to make a trip with the “Sedina” to Halifax-island. There is a sea of old house ruins from the colonial age on the island, which are occupied by jackass-penguins and cormoranes. A booking is required at the guest house “Zur Waterkant”..Proceed to explore the entire peninsula drive is 65 km long. This area around Luderitz is packed with wildlife a fabulous place to visit for birdwatchers. The best sighting is that of pink flamingoes, who feed on small fish and shrimps they find on the pristine beaches and waters of the peninsula.
Continue to the lagoon, a paradise for flamingos and is known for its oyster culture. Fish can be easily caught in the shallow waters. You will have some few minutes to practice your fishing skills.
A whaling station was built in 1914 nearby. Today it is used by a youth centre. The Portuguese navigator Bartholomeu Diaz landed here in 1486 and erected the original stone cross. 1929 a symbolical cross was put up, which was replaced by a replica of the original cross in 1988. The wooden footbridge is from 1911/12.
Drive to Agate Beach created from the tailings of a former diamond mining operation and has become popular spot to swim in the Atlantic or to search for agate and crystals. Relax on the near-black sands of Agate Beach, and enjoy sunbathing, strolling next to the ocean, or meditating. The beach is renowned for its crystals and rocks, the most famous being agate, from which the beach got its name. Nowadays, taking rocks out of the complex requires the permission of the Nature Conservation Office ranger. Swimming is permitted, although there are no lifeguards. Bring your camera to capture a breathtaking views. You’ll also have lunch at the restaurant of your choice in the areas at your own expense.
After lunch and having a great time at the beach you will drive to Eberlanz cave, the white painted stones are for your orientation. After a ten-minutes-long stony walk you arrive at the small cave you will explore the cave for few minutes and drive back to the port where you will be dropped at 4pm
