Port Louis

Upon arrival, you will be received by our guide at the port terminal gate. You will hop on a minivan where your full-day tour begins with a visit to Port Louis, the capital city. Enjoy magnificent views over the town and its harbor from the old citadel. Discover the busy city center on a walk that starts at the Saint Louis Cathedral and continues to the noisy and hectic central market. You’ll also see the Supreme Court, the Municipal Theater, Poncini, the Parliament, Place d’Armes, and Government House.
Continue to Le Caudan Waterfront, Port Louis. Le Caudan Waterfront offers a unique shopping, leisure and work hub in the capital on the water edge. Explore the China Town is filled with shops, many being over a hundred years old. Proceed to The Oldest Mosque in Mauritius, Jummah Mosque, The building combines Indian, Creole and Islamic architecture. The Jummah Mosque houses the remains of Jamal Shah (a pir from Kutch, India) in a marble tomb next to the mosque.
Our next stop will be Aapravasi Ghat is the remains of an immigration depot. the site from where modern indentured labour Diaspora emerged. The Depot was built in 1849 to receive indentured labourers from India, Eastern Africa, Madagascar, China and Southeast Asia to work on the island’s sugar estates as part of the ‘Great Experiment’.
Head to the north to ‘chez Tante Athalie’. This authentic Mauritius restaurant in a family orchard serves traditional Mauritian food. Eat delicious creole specialties, coconut chutneys, rougailles, deep fried slices of exotic vegetables .
After lunch, you’ll drive through Moka, Saint Pierre, Nouvelle Decouverte, Les Mariannes, and Long Mountain on your way to the magnificent Pamplemousses Botanical Garden. This site is noted for its variety and the rarity of its species. Take a leisurely walk along the shady, well-kept avenues and enjoy the garden’s beauty.
Continue to the real jewel of the Mauritian heritage. Built in 1856, the Château de Labourdonnais was inhabited by a Mauritian family for over 150 years. The beauty and historical character of this unique colonial monument, which has long aroused visitors’ interest, has led to a reflection on its cultural and historic value, as well as that of the superb estate on which it was located. After exploring for around half an hour you will embark on 20 mins drive back to the Port Louis for drop off.
