pickup from where you are in the city. Drive to Merkato, the largest open-air market in Africa! Merkato is the largest open market with more than 7000 business entities and tens of thousands of workers and businessmen. Walkthrough the spice, second-hand items, handwoven basket market, and the recycling sections of the market.
Then continue to Holy Trinity Cathedral Church, the largest Orthodox Church in Ethiopia and which has survived through many historical periods, as its interesting architecture can attest to. A visit to the church offers an opportunity to learn more about Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity. In the compound of the church, you visit the beautiful window glassworks, the unique architecture, the tombs of Emperor Haile Selassie I and the small museum.
Proceed to the National Museum that is said to be one of the most important museums in whole Sub-Saharian Africa. The museum holds cradle of mankind which is dated from 3.2 million years – Lucy and the recent excavated fossilized hominid called Selam, an extensive collection of artifacts, royal costumes, some predating the Axumite civilizations and Ethiopian paintings. The oldest exhibits of rock sculptures and inscriptions from the times of Queen Saba is also found in this museum.
After a lunch break at Lucy’s cultural restaurant with delicious Ethiopian Coffee, continue the tour with a visit to Ethnographic museum. The museum is located in the former royal palace of emperor Hailesilassie which is later changed to the university campus. This museum was found and managed by Polish scientists, professor Stanisław Chojnacki. The most interesting part of the exhibition includes a collection of crosses and icons, emperor Haile Selassie’s bedroom and Ethiopian traditional music instruments
Then, climb Entoto hill located at 3200 meters above sea level. This is where Menelik established his first capital and the Church of Entoto Mariam where he was crowned. The top of the hill offers a stunning and panoramic view of Addis Ababa. Descend to get back to the city,here you can have a short stop at a place called Shero Meda if you want to buy or see Ethiopian cultural fabric or clothing. Finally, drive through main streets of Addis to see the city’s various historical monuments such as the Lion of Judah and Red Terror Martyrs Memorial Museum and other important places such as headquarter of African Union (AU). Transfer to your designated place within Addis Ababa and end of the tour.
