Tour Details

Djibouti, the port city and capital of the Republic of Djibouti, lies in northeast Africa on the Gulf of Aden at the southern entrance to the Red Sea. Built on three-level areas linked in jetties, the city combines old and modern architecture. On this tour, you will explore the city’s capital and learn more about its colorful history and rich culture. Start by visiting the European and the Arab quarters, which are adjacent to each other. In the city’s European Quarter, you can expect a mix of French colonialism and Moorish architecture. You will also find various stores selling all sorts of local items. Continue to Place Mahmoud Harbi or Place Rimbaud, where the city’s most iconic building and Djibouti’s most important landmark is: the mosque. Then, proceed to the African Quarter, an enormous sprawl of tin-roofed huts lined up on barren streets. You can also swing by the African Market, the old and new train stations, and the ports of Djibouti, and even meet and mingle with the locals as you visit the suburb and villages.
