Arrival & Check-in – Itsamia Community Bungalows
Upon arrival, check in to your beachfront bungalow and take time to explore the village, renowned for its green sea turtle conservation efforts. The secluded beaches of this small village on Mohéli provide an extraordinary setting to witness the life cycle of these gentle giants.
Each year, more than 20,000 green turtles nest on these shores. In an incredible display of instinct and continuity, they return to the very beach where they were born to lay approximately 100 golf ball-sized eggs, renewing the cycle of life. As one of the highest-density nesting sites in the world, Itsamia is unique in that turtles nest here almost every night of the year.
From observing the mothers carefully digging their nests to witnessing hatchlings emerge and make their determined journey to the sea, this experience offers one of nature’s most profound and moving spectacles.
Accommodation: Itsamia Bungalows

Note that these are simple bungalows, built and operated by the community as a development project. The concrete rooms feature private bathrooms with bucket showers, mosquito nets, and solar powered fans.
Enjoy an early breakfast before departing from Itsamia for the transfer to Mohéli Port.
Board the Adore Comores Express at 07:30 for your crossing to Grande Comore, arriving in Ouroveni at approximately 09:00. The vessel is well regarded for its reliability and comfort.
Should you prefer to fly, flight arrangements can be made at an additional cost.
Optional Activity on Grande Comore – Southern Discovery Tour
09:30 – Ouroveni to Chindini
Begin with a short visit to Chindini, historically known as the maritime gateway to Mohéli. Explore the town before continuing by road toward Singani. Along the way, stop to admire the impressive baobab trees lining the roadside.
10:30 – Singani Village
Continue to Singani, the site of the 1977 lava flow from Mount Karthala that partially destroyed the village. From an elevated viewpoint, observe the path carved by the lava and see how the village was rebuilt directly atop the hardened flow—using volcanic rock as a primary building material.
14:00 – Iconi Historical Tour
After lunch at a local restaurant, visit Iconi, one of the most historically significant towns on Grande Comore.
Once the capital of the Sultanate of Bambao, Iconi sits beneath a dramatic volcanic cone. In the 19th century, women of the town famously leapt from its heights to avoid capture by Malagasy pirates an event that remains a powerful symbol of resistance in local history.
Explore the ancient sultan’s palace, Kaviri Djewé, constructed from coral and lava stone. In the medina, discover the traditional bangwe—open communal spaces where men still gather to debate and make community decisions.
On the outskirts of town lies Lake Marabou, a tidal saltwater pool offering a peaceful setting to observe mangroves and seabirds, with Mount Karthala rising majestically in the background. Return to your accommodation for overnight.

You will then enjoy a guided walking tour of Moroni’s historic old stone town. Wander through narrow, ancient alleyways infused with an Arabian ambiance, lined with picturesque cafés and traditional shops. Conclude your visit at the vibrant local markets, where the aromas of fresh spices mingle with tropical fruits and the day’s catch from the sea.
Optional Activity – Legends of the North Tour
09:00 – Northern Grande Comore Exploration
Discover the dramatic northern coastline of Grande Comore and its fascinating volcanic heritage. Following the western coastal road, observe where ancient lava flows meet the sea and how mangrove forests have taken root within hardened lava beds.
Stop to admire the largest baobab tree in the Comoros so vast that you and several companions can stand inside its hollow trunk. With more than 120 volcanic craters across the island, today you will explore two remarkable examples.
Your first visit is Lac Salé, a striking crater lake located just beside the road. Its waters are locally believed to possess healing properties.
A short distance away lies The Dragon’s Back, a coastal crater partially claimed by the ocean, leaving a dramatic crescent-shaped peninsula stretching into the sea.
On your return journey, stop at the village of Bangwa Kouni to visit the legendary “Miraculous Mosque.” According to local lore, villagers awoke one morning to find the mosque fully constructed beside their village. Nearby rest the ancient tombs of some of the earliest Arab explorers to reach the Comoros.
13:00 – Lunch at Trou du Prophète
Following your morning adventure, enjoy a seafood lunch beneath the shade of baobab trees overlooking the ocean. This scenic bay offers a captivating and memorable final dining experience.
13:30 – Departure Transfer
At 13:30, you will be transferred to Prince Said Ibrahim International Airport for your international departure, marking the end of your unforgettable journey through the Comoros.
