Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Nouakchott & Welcome Briefing

Arrival in Nouakchott, the coastal capital. Meet your expedition team and transfer to the hotel. Evening briefing covers route overview, safety procedures, desert driving conditions, and cultural etiquette. Overnight in the city.

Day 2Preparation Day in Nouakchott

Final expedition preparations including vehicle checks, supply loading, and permit confirmations. Optional visit to the local fish market and coastal area to experience daily life in the capital. Rest and overnight stay.

Day 3Journey into the Adrar Desert

Depart early by 4×4 into the vast desert plains of the Adrar region. The route transitions from coastal landscapes to rocky plateaus and sand valleys. Stop for photography and short breaks en route. Arrival at desert camp for overnight under the stars.

Day 4Terjit Oasis & Desert Canyons

Visit the spectacular Terjit Oasis, a hidden canyon filled with palm groves and natural spring pools. Time for relaxation and exploration of the shaded valley. Continue through surrounding desert canyons and dunes before returning to camp.

Day 5Chinguetti Cultural Exploration

Travel to the ancient city of Chinguetti, one of the most important historical centers of Islamic scholarship in the Sahara. Explore old libraries, sandstone mosques, and narrow streets preserved for centuries. Overnight nearby.

Day 6Ouadane Caravan Heritage City

Drive deeper into the desert to Ouadane, a UNESCO-listed former caravan hub. Walk through ancient ruins, abandoned stone houses, and elevated viewpoints overlooking endless desert landscapes.

Day 7Guelb El Richat (Eye of the Sahara)

Full-day exploration of the Richat Structure, a massive circular geological formation visible from space. Learn about its unique geology and enjoy panoramic desert views. Picnic lunch in a remote desert setting.

Overnight: Luxury Expedition Desert Camp

Day 8 Ben Amira Monolith Expedition

Continue across remote desert terrain to Ben Amira, the world’s third-largest monolith. Explore surrounding granite formations and experience sunset photography in one of the Sahara’s most dramatic landscapes.

Day 9 Enter Tagant Plateau Region

Travel south into the rugged Tagant plateau. The landscape becomes more mountainous with rocky escarpments and hidden valleys. Arrive in a remote nomadic area for overnight camping experience.

Day 10 Nomadic Encounters & Cultural Experience

Spend the day with local nomadic families, learning about traditional Saharan lifestyles, livestock herding, and desert survival techniques. Enjoy tea ceremonies and cultural exchange before another night in the desert.

Day 11Return Journey Toward the Coast

Begin the long return drive toward the Atlantic coast, passing through shifting desert ecosystems and rural settlements. Arrive near Nouakchott for overnight stay and rest.

Day 12 Departure from Nouakchott

Transfer to the airport in Nouakchott for international departure. End of expedition.
