Throughout the journey, you’ll experience a variety of habitats — lush wetlands, shimmering salt pans, acacia woodlands, and riverine forests — each offering unique birdlife and photographic opportunities. Guided by our experienced naturalists, you’ll uncover hidden gems, observe rare species, and witness some of Africa’s finest wildlife spectacles.
Arrive at Maun International Airport, where our representative will greet you with a warm welcome sign reading “IMELA WILDERNESS”. You’ll be transferred to your lodge for check-in and relaxation. Maun is the gateway to the legendary Okavango Delta, one of Africa’s most unforgettable safari destinations.
After an early breakfast, set out for a full-day excursion to Lake Ngami, a seasonal lake north of the Kalahari Desert and a haven for birdlife. Declared one of Botswana’s 12 Important Bird Areas (IBAs), Lake Ngami hosts globally threatened species such as the Lesser Kestrel and Black-winged Pratincole, alongside regional specialties like the Kalahari Robin and Hartlaub’s Babbler. Return to Maun in the late afternoon for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, journey north to the Okavango Panhandle, the tranquil gateway feeding the Delta. This region offers serene waterways, lush riverbanks, and spectacular birding opportunities. Enjoy guided boat cruises and walking excursions where you may spot the elusive Pel’s Fishing Owl, Narina Trogon, African Skimmer, and many more. Spend three nights at Drotsky’s Cabins or a similar riverside lodge.
Head east to the scenic Nxai Pan National Park, renowned for its vast open grasslands and the iconic Baines Baobabs. Discover a rich array of over 200 bird species including Kori Bustard, Saddle billed Stork, Wattled Crane, and Martial Eagle. The varied habitats of grassland, woodland, and acacia scrub make Nxai Pan a birder’s paradise.
Spend two nights camping under the stars in the heart of the park.
Travel to the eastern edge of the Makgadikgadi Pans and explore the Nata Bird Sanctuary. Witness vast salt flats that transform into wildlife-rich wetlands during the rainy season. Flocks of flamingos, pelicans, and migratory waterfowl create a vibrant spectacle. Camp overnight in this serene environment surrounded by nature’s beauty.
Depart early for Kasane, gateway to Chobe National Park. Enjoy an afternoon boat cruise along the Chobe River and two days of thrilling birding and wildlife experiences. With over 450 recorded bird species, Chobe offers some of the best viewing in Africa — from African Darters and Skimmers to Meyer’s Parrots and Slaty Egrets.
Stay in a comfortable lodge for two nights and savor both river and land safaris.
After breakfast, you’ll be transferred to Kasane International Airport, marking the end of your unforgettable Botswana birding and wilderness safari.
