Embark on an unforgettable 15-day journey through Ethiopia’s rich cultural tapestry. This is a deep dive into Ethiopia’s living heritage, offering an unparalleled cultural adventure.
Upon your arrival at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your guide. After a smooth transfer to your hotel, you’ll have the rest of the day to relax and settle in.
Overnight: Jupiter International or a similar 4-star hotel.
In the morning, you will fly west to Gambella, a vibrant and culturally rich region. After arriving and having lunch, you’ll visit the local cultural market, where you can experience the unique traditions and crafts of the area. Later, enjoy a peaceful walk along the Baro River, which joins the White Nile in Sudan. This is a great opportunity for bird watching and soaking in the stunning views, especially as the sun begins to set.

In the morning, embark on a scenic drive of 48 km to Itang, where you’ll have the chance to meet the Nuer people, known for their cattle-keeping and fishing traditions. Afterward, return to Gambella and visit the Agnuak people, located on the outskirts of the town. Experience their unique culture and way of life, which is deeply rooted in the region’s traditions.

Drive to Bebeka, home to the largest coffee plantation in the region, while visiting the Maji people and the Tepi Tea Plantation along the way.

Start with a brief visit to the Rubber Plantation near Bebeka, then continue driving south to Kibish. On the way, stop at Tulgit, another settlement of the Surma people, and cross the Akobo River, which flows into the Baro River.

Spend the full day with the Surma people, who are known for the practice of women inserting clay discs into their lower lips and men engaging in traditional ‘Stick Fighting.’ You’ll also visit the Mursi people, who live on the other side of the Omo River.

Drive to Mizan Teferi via Bebeka, where you’ll have the opportunity to observe the coffee exporting process, from the nursery to packing and transportation.

On the way to Jimma, visit the cultivation of chat (a mild stimulant) and interact with the Muslim Oromo people. Continue your drive to Jimma, which was the regional capital of Ethiopia in the late 19th century.

Drive 360 km to Arba Minch, with a stop at the Gojeb River where you may spot hippos. On the way, visit the Wolita people, known for their cultivation of Enset (False Banana).

Visit the vibrant, multicultural market in Key Afer, one of the most colorful in the Lower Omo Valley, where the tribal groups of Ari, Benna, and Tsemai gather. Afterward, drive 275 km to Jinka.

Take an excursion to Mago National Park to visit the Mursi people, who are known for the clay lip plates worn by women. Afterward, return to Jinka and explore the Cultural Museum, which showcases the heritage of the people of the Lower Omo Valley.

Drive to Turmi, the settlement of the Hamer people. On the way, stop at Dimeka to visit the vibrant weekly cultural market, where you can experience the traditions of the Hamer and Benna people. After dinner at your hotel, you’ll be driven to a nearby Hamer village to witness the traditional Evangadi Dance, a lively cultural performance of the Hamer people.

In the morning, take an excursion to Omo Rate to visit the Dasenech people, the southernmost group in the country, known for their distinctive scarifications. After a picnic lunch at Murulle, continue on to Korcho to visit the Karo people. Finally, drive back to Turmi.

With an early start, drive north to Arba Minch, making a stop at Lake Chamo for a remarkable boat trip to the “Crocodile Market,” where you can see large African crocodiles, hippos, and various lowland water birds.

Drive north to Lake Langano in the Rift Valley, stopping to visit the Dorze people, known for their large bamboo huts and colorful cotton clothing. Along the way, you’ll also visit several of the Rift Valley Lakes.

In the morning, drive back to Addis Ababa. After lunch, enjoy a short city tour, visiting the National Archaeological Museum of Addis Ababa and Merkato, the largest open-air market in Africa. In the evening, before your departure, you’ll be a guest of Dinknesh Ethiopia Tour at one of the best traditional restaurants to taste a variety of Ethiopian dishes and enjoy folkloric dances.
Afterward, you’ll be transferred to the airport for your departure.
