Begin with a guided tour of the National Museum of Liberia, where you’ll see artifacts from the country’s tribal groups and independence era. Continue to Waterside Market, one of the oldest in Monrovia, where vibrant stalls display fabrics, beads, spices, and handicrafts. After lunch, prepare for an evening of traditional masked dance at a private performance hosted by a local cultural society. The dances—once reserved for sacred rituals—offer a glimpse into Liberia’s spiritual life.
Depart Monrovia for a rural village in Bong County, where you’ll be welcomed with music and kola nuts. Spend the day participating in everyday activities like basket weaving, rice pounding, and storytelling with elders. A local artisan will guide you through carving your own small traditional mask. In the evening, join your host family for dinner and conversation by lantern light.
After breakfast, return to Monrovia and stop at the Providence Island Heritage Site, where freed slaves from America landed in the 1820s. End the trip with a visit to a contemporary art gallery supporting young Liberian artists. After lunch, transfer to the airport or your hotel.
