Return to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay, preparing for your island adventure beginning the following day.
After an early breakfast, depart Bissau by motorboat for the scenic journey to Bolama Island, the former capital of Portuguese Guinea. As you cruise through the tranquil waters of the Bijagós Archipelago, enjoy beautiful views of mangrove-lined channels and the surrounding islands.
Upon arrival, embark on a guided walking tour of Bolama, where history comes alive among the island’s fascinating colonial-era architecture. Explore the quiet streets lined with weathered 19th-century buildings, visit the former administrative quarters and colonial barracks, and discover how nature has gradually reclaimed much of this once-important capital. The island’s peaceful atmosphere, friendly locals, and rich heritage offer a unique glimpse into Guinea-Bissau’s past.
Spend time exploring the coastal mangrove ecosystems and learning about their importance in protecting marine biodiversity and supporting local livelihoods.
In the evening, check in to a charming eco-lodge overlooking the island’s beautiful coastline. Enjoy a delicious dinner featuring local cuisine before relaxing for an overnight stay surrounded by the serenity of the Bijagós Islands.

Upon arrival, settle into your beachfront eco-camp before setting out to explore the island’s remarkable natural beauty. Paddle through peaceful mangrove channels by kayak, where you may encounter a variety of bird species and other coastal wildlife. As the sun sets, gather around a beach bonfire for a freshly prepared dinner featuring local seafood and regional specialties. Enjoy the sounds of the ocean and a spectacular star-filled sky before spending the night at your eco-camp on the island.
After breakfast, travel to the spectacular Orango National Park, one of the most important protected areas in the Bijagós Archipelago and a haven for wildlife and biodiversity. Accompanied by an experienced park ranger, set out on a guided nature walk through palm forests, wetlands, savannahs, and coastal lagoons while learning about the park’s unique ecosystems and ongoing conservation efforts.
Orango National Park is world-famous for its rare saltwater hippos, one of the few populations in the world adapted to coastal and marine environments. Keep your camera ready as you search for these remarkable animals, along with a variety of birdlife, monkeys, reptiles, and other native wildlife that inhabit the park.
After a rewarding day of exploration, check in to a simple eco-lodge or comfortable tented camp within the national park. Enjoy a freshly prepared dinner in the heart of nature before relaxing under the stars, surrounded by the peaceful sounds of the Bijagós wilderness.

These hands-on experiences provide a deeper appreciation of the community’s rich cultural heritage and sustainable lifestyle.
Later, enjoy a warm welcome from the village elders as you share a traditional homemade meal prepared with fresh local ingredients. This memorable cultural exchange offers an opportunity to learn about the Bijagó people’s history, beliefs, and close relationship with the surrounding environment.
In the afternoon, return to your eco-lodge or camp for some leisure time to relax, explore the surrounding landscape, or simply soak in the peaceful atmosphere of Orango National Park. Dinner and overnight stay in the park.
