Our professional guide from Across Africa Tours and Travels will welcome you upon arrival. He will take you for a brief walk to explore some of Cape Town’s historical landmarks from a past era, while tracing the history of early settlers. Afterward, we will embark on a legendary journey to Rawsonville, superbly resembling nobility. We later drive to Rawsonville and visit the extraordinary Kirabo wine farm, where we’ll have the chance to meet the winemakers and relish the results of their hard work. You can expect to indulge in delectable red wines, succulent biltong, and cupcakes infused with red wine.
Continue on a grand adventure through the distinct Klein Karoo, which will take approximately two and a half hours. Breathtaking views will accompany you as you trace the paths of early explorers who ventured into the new African plains of a past era.
Proceed to experience the enchanting desert-oasis town of Matjiesfontein, which appears to have been suspended in time. You will discover the fascinating tales of legends and renowned diamond explorers. You will also join in the eccentric ‘city’ bus tour unique to Matjiesfontein, which promises to be both amusing and unconventional. You will enjoy a traditional Karoo lamb BBQ feast under the starry sky, a peculiar night walk showcasing the peculiar and extraordinary, and a guided stargazing session. You can revel in the musical tunes of local artists gathered around an old piano. A rich historical ambiance will encompass your cottages. They will be located at the prestigious Matjiesfontein hotel, which played a crucial role in the world-renowned Anglo-Boer war that began in 1899. Be dropped off at your hotel for dinner and overnight.
After a satisfying breakfast, we will travel through the picturesque and desolate Koo valley and pause at the family-owned Oupa Batt’s shop, where the natives will demonstrate the process of making their renowned biltong (preserved meat), followed by a traditional potjiekos lunch. Next, we will stop at the impressive headquarters of Montague Dried Fruit & Nuts, renowned for their locally produced goods. You may need to clear some space in your suitcase for souvenirs! Additionally, the group will have the choice to visit the Route 62 Brewery for exceptional handcrafted beers and gin at their own expense and discretion. To conclude the journey fittingly, we will drive beneath an old watchtower from the historic Anglo-Boer war period, bidding farewell to this awe-inspiring place and era. We will then return to Cape Town leisurely, wrapping up the unforgettable experience of the Forgotten Route. We drop you at the port, Accommodation, or Airport in Cape Town.
