1 Hour Before Departure Time
This is an amazing trip to learn the history and culture of Maputo and its inhabitants. In an 8-hour tour, you’ll explore the other side of Maputo you’ve not seen so far. Upon pick up, you’ll head to the Praca da Independencia (independence square) in front of the Maputo city hall. Renamed in 1975 after the independence of Mozambique, the public square sits amidst the architectural styles and interesting city’s uptown. Here, learn about the history and culture of the square and its origin. Don’t forget to look out for the neoclassical city hall on the north side.
ou’ll then head to the Cathedral of Our Lady Of Immaculate Conception. Popularly known as the demons cathedral, the significant infrastructure was built by Marcial simões in the 1940s. In this place, the Maputo residents got the opportunity to meet the pope in 2019.
The next destination is the old town hall designed and built by the Arnaldo Pacheco Pereira Leite, Carlos césar dos Santos and Franz Kendal. Take pictures of this iconic infrastructure. Afterward, we head to the statue of Samora Machel, the first president of Mozambique. The statue stands at 9 meters and is 4.8 tonnes in weight.
You’ll then head to the Iron House (Casa De Ferro) designed by Gustave Eiffel. Learn the history of the house and why it has remained an instrument facet of Maputo’s history. Enjoy the beautiful fresh breath of air from the Jardin Centenario before heading to the Mercado Central de Maputo (central market). Explore the unique design by David Carvalho in 1901.
Maputo railway station is the next destination before heading out to the National art Museum to learn modern impressions of Mozambican art. Next, you’ll visit the Centro social and cultural do Nucleo de Arte, Feima Banca, before stopping at Avenida Fernao De Magalhaes, the Jewish synagogue. The private tour then ends at the Goncalo workshop, shop for a piece of African art as a souvenir.
