Our day begins before sunrise with an early breakfast before entering the Namib-Naukluft National Park as the gates open. The early morning light provides the best opportunity to witness the famous red dunes glowing in brilliant shades of orange and crimson, while the cooler temperatures make exploring more comfortable. Travel deep into the park along the 60 km scenic route to Sossusvlei, passing some of the tallest sand dunes in the world. Along the way, your guide will explain how these magnificent dunes, some rising over 300 meters (1,000 feet), have been shaped by millions of years of wind and climate. Your first major stop is the iconic Dune 45, one of the most photographed dunes in Namibia. Those wishing to do so may climb the dune to enjoy breathtaking panoramic views across the endless sea of red sand, while others can admire the scenery from below and capture incredible photographs. Continue by 4×4 shuttle through the final sandy section to Deadvlei, one of Namibia’s most famous landscapes. A short walk brings you to this ancient white clay pan, where centuries-old black camel thorn trees stand preserved against a backdrop of towering orange dunes and deep blue skies. This surreal landscape is regarded as one of the world’s most spectacular photography locations. You will also visit Sossusvlei, where enormous dunes surround a seasonal clay pan that occasionally fills with water after rare desert rains. Your guide will share fascinating information about the geology, wildlife, and remarkable plant life that survives in this harsh but beautiful environment. Later in the morning, visit the impressive Sesriem Canyon, a natural gorge carved by the Tsauchab River over millions of years. The canyon reaches depths of up to 30 meters and offers a unique perspective on the geological history of the Namib Desert.Following your exploration, enjoy a relaxing picnic lunch or return to your lodge for lunch, depending on your itinerary. The afternoon is free to unwind at the lodge, cool off in the swimming pool, or simply admire the peaceful desert scenery. As the day draws to a close, enjoy a spectacular Namib Desert sunset as the dunes once again change color with the fading light.
