Picking up from Mozambique, your fleet departs for the idyllic Mozambique Island. You’ll enjoy the stunning views of the Indian Ocean from the island’s highest peak, Chimattah, which has been offering a panoramic sea view since the 16th century. On the island, you will visit the colonial town of Quelimane, explore the nearby small islands of Inhaki and Inhagnoli, climb a mountain for great views of Africa’s third-largest.
Your tour of Mozambique Island will also include these main sights;
- The whitewashed Art Deco cathedral on Independence Square (the cathedral has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979); the landmark century-old train station
- Expect to visit Gustave Eiffel’s prefabricated Iron House; the whitewashed Art Deco cathedral on Independence Square; the landmark century-old train station; the Natural History Museum, with its collection of taxidermic African animals; and the old Port
- Quelimane, the capital of Mozambique, is home to impressive buildings. Heading to the center of town, the first architectural sight you’ll reach is the landmark Po’ building, one of the largest structures in Africa. Here you can visit the Cenotaph of the Heroes of Independence Square, the former Mozambican House of Parliament. Even better, you can climb Punda Island for great views of Bazaruto, Mozambique’s largest island.
