Arrive in Tamanrasset (via flight from Algiers), and meet your local Tuareg guide. Begin your journey with a drive through the Ahaggar Mountains, a dramatic volcanic range in southern Algeria. Explore the local market, and visit the Charles de Foucauld Hermitage on Assekrem Plateau, famous for its sunsets and panoramic desert views.

Early morning departure by 4×4 to the Tadrart Rouge, a spectacular desert of red dunes, natural rock arches, and dramatic cliffs. Enjoy stops for photos and desert tea breaks. Explore caves and overhangs adorned with prehistoric rock art. Camp beneath the stars in one of the region’s most otherworldly landscapes.

Your guide explains the stories behind the images and the life of early Sahara inhabitants. After lunch in the dunes, head to your next campsite surrounded by towering cliffs and glowing sand.

Break camp and begin the journey back toward Tamanrasset, stopping to visit Tuareg communities en route. Learn about traditional crafts, silverwork, and nomadic life. Return to your lodge in the afternoon, with time to relax, shop at the Tuareg artisan market, or join an optional cooking or tea workshop.
