This 9-day program takes you on an exceptional journey from the coastal city of Douala deep into the remote forests of Central Africa, at the heart of Lobéké National Park. After a first night to acclimate in Douala, you travel eastward across Cameroon, passing through Yaoundé and the more remote regions of Bertoua and Batouri before reaching Mambele, the gateway to the park.
You will then experience two unforgettable days and nights inside the tropical rainforest, staying in a rustic forest camp near the bais—natural clearings where forest elephants, primates, antelopes, and rare birds gather in remarkable numbers. This itinerary emphasizes wildlife observation, total immersion in nature, guided jungle walks with specialist trackers, and encounters with isolated forest communities.
After this intense forest adventure, the journey gradually returns toward Yaoundé for a well-deserved rest before your departure. This expedition offers a unique combination of long road travel, pristine wilderness, exceptional biodiversity, and encounters with authentic Cameroon—a rare experience only a few travelers ever get to live.

This expedition offers a unique combination of long road travel, pristine wilderness, exceptional biodiversity, and encounters with authentic Cameroon—a rare experience only a few travelers ever get to live.
Upon arrival at Douala International Airport, you are welcomed by your driver and transferred to your hotel in the central Bonanjo district. After check-in, take time to shower, rest, and recover from your trip. Depending on your arrival time and energy level, you may take a short walk around Bonanjo Park or toward the museum/harbor for a first glimpse of the city.
Dinner is served at the hotel—either in the main restaurant or on the terrace—where you can sample Cameroonian and international cuisine before a good night’s rest.
Recommended accommodation: K Hotel Douala, a modern and well-located property with on-site restaurant, full board (breakfast, lunch, dinner).
After breakfast, you depart Douala and travel by road to Yaoundé. The drive, which takes most of the day, gradually transitions from the coastal urban landscape to greener, hilly terrain as you approach the political capital.
Scheduled stops include a simple roadside lunch or picnic and short breaks to stretch your legs. You arrive in Yaoundé in the afternoon and check into your centrally located hotel. If time allows, you may take a short walk or orientation drive to see the main administrative buildings and the city’s distinctive hills.
Dinner is served at the hotel.
Recommended accommodation: Merina Hotel, a recently renovated 4★ property with restaurant, bar, and pool—full board.
Today you leave the capital and travel east toward Bertoua or Batouri, depending on the selected overnight option. After breakfast, you drive through a succession of villages, plantations, forest zones, and rural markets.
Lunch is taken en route—either in a small local restaurant or as a picnic prepared by the hotel. This travel day offers excellent opportunities to observe daily life in eastern Cameroon: motorbike taxis, fruit stands, cassava stalls, and traditional earthen homes.
By late afternoon or evening, you arrive in Bertoua or Batouri and settle into a simple but functional hotel for dinner and rest before the long stage ahead.
Recommended accommodation: Hotel Mansa (or similar), full board.
After breakfast, continue east toward Yokadouma, a main regional hub on the road leading to the southeastern forests. As the kilometers progress, the region becomes more isolated, heavily forested, and wilder. Some road sections may be rough, slowing down progress.
Lunch is taken en route, and the long drive allows you to observe rural life and landscapes. After Yokadouma, continue to Mambele, near the entrance of Lobéké National Park, arriving late afternoon.
You settle into a simple camp or guest house commonly used by conservation teams and travelers heading to the park. Dinner is served on site, followed by a briefing with your local team (guides, cook, porters) who will accompany you into the forest.
Recommended accommodation: WWF Guest House or similar, full board.
After an early breakfast, leave Mambele for the interior of Lobéké National Park. Depending on conditions, part of the journey is by 4×4 and the rest on foot along forest trails leading to one of the bais (natural clearings) and the camp area.
Accompanied by experienced forest guides and porters, you trek through dense rainforest filled with bird calls, monkey cries, and the hum of insects. Lunch is a picnic or a hot meal prepared by the camp cook.
Upon arrival at the bai sector, you settle into a simple forest camp—usually tents or a basic shelter—then head to an observation platform overlooking the clearing, frequented by forest wildlife.
Return to camp for dinner and spend the night surrounded by the sounds of the forest.
Accommodation: Rustic forest camp inside or near Lobéké, full board.
This entire day is devoted to wildlife viewing and immersion in Lobéké’s forest ecosystem. After breakfast, walk to the bai and observation tower, where you spend several hours watching forest elephants, antelopes, forest buffalo, monkeys, and a wide variety of birds drawn by mineral-rich marshes.
Silence enhances your chances of observation while your guides interpret tracks, animal behavior, and conservation efforts. Lunch is taken at the camp or as a picnic.
In the afternoon, return to the lookout for sunset wildlife activity. Dinner and second overnight stay in the forest camp.
Accommodation: Lobéké forest camp, full board.
After a final breakfast in the forest, you break camp and retrace your steps back along the trail, enjoying one last immersion in this extraordinary environment.
Meet your vehicle and return to Mambele to collect any items left at the base camp, then begin the long westward journey. Lunch is taken en route in a simple restaurant or as a packed meal.
The afternoon is spent driving with occasional stops to rest or take photos. By early evening, you arrive in Bertoua or Batouri and check into a simple hotel or guest house, where a hot shower, dinner, and a comfortable bed await after days in the forest.
Accommodation: Hotel Mansa / equivalent, full board.
After breakfast, depart for Yaoundé. The drive gradually transitions from isolated forest regions to the more populated central areas, offering more glimpses of plantations, villages, and roadside markets.
Lunch is taken en route. You arrive in Yaoundé in the afternoon and return to your hotel to enjoy a shower, the pool, or a relaxing break after several demanding days. Dinner is served at the hotel.
Recommended accommodation: Merina Hotel, full board.
Depending on your flight schedule, enjoy a final breakfast at the hotel and some free time to pack, rest, or purchase last-minute souvenirs.
When the time comes, your driver transfers you to Yaoundé–Nsimalen International Airport for check-in and security formalities. You leave Cameroon with lasting memories of Douala, the long eastern roads, and your unforgettable immersion in the forests of Lobéké.
