Arrive in Sierra Leone and meet your private guide at Freetown International Airport. Transfer by boat or road connection as appropriate to Freetown and continue to your hotel. After check-in, enjoy time to relax before an introductory briefing about the country’s history, culture and traditions. In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner featuring local Sierra Leonean cuisine.
After breakfast, begin your guided exploration of Freetown. Discover important historical landmarks and learn about the city’s origins as a settlement for formerly enslaved Africans. Visit the National Museum, historic churches and central landmarks such as the famous Cotton Tree area, subject to current access. Continue through Freetown’s lively streets and markets, where you can experience local crafts, food and everyday life. The day provides an introduction to the diverse communities that have shaped modern Sierra Leone.
Today is dedicated to one of Sierra Leone’s most significant historical experiences. Travel by boat to Bunce Island, the remains of a former British slave-trading fort. Explore the historic ruins with a local guide and learn about the people who passed through this site and the wider history of the transatlantic slave trade. The experience offers an important opportunity to reflect on Sierra Leone’s connections with African-descendant communities around the world. Return to Freetown in the afternoon.
Today focuses on contemporary Sierra Leonean culture. Visit local markets and artisan areas where traditional crafts, fabrics, food and other products are traded. Meet local people and learn about everyday life, family traditions and community customs. Depending on availability, enjoy a cultural demonstration or interaction with local artists and craftspeople. In the afternoon, continue to the Freetown Peninsula for beautiful coastal views before returning to the city.
Leave Freetown after breakfast and travel south through Sierra Leone’s scenic countryside. Along the way, pass agricultural areas, villages and rural communities, with selected stops to meet local people and experience aspects of life outside the capital. Arrive in Bo, one of the country’s major southern cities, and enjoy an orientation tour before checking into your hotel. The evening is free to relax or explore the city independently.
Spend the day discovering southern Sierra Leone’s cultural traditions. Visit a local community and learn about traditional livelihoods, food, music, crafts and social customs. Where available, enjoy a cultural performance featuring traditional music and dance. Continue with a visit to a local market and interact with artisans and traders. This immersive experience provides a different perspective on Sierra Leone beyond its capital and major historical sites.
After breakfast, begin your return journey to Freetown. Travel through the countryside, stopping at selected communities and scenic locations along the way. On reaching the Freetown Peninsula, enjoy time at one of the area’s beautiful beaches, such as River No. 2 or Tokeh Beach. In the evening, return to Freetown for a farewell dinner celebrating Sierra Leonean cuisine, culture and hospitality.
Enjoy breakfast and some free time depending on your flight schedule. This is an opportunity for last-minute souvenir shopping or a final walk through Freetown.
